Displacement Hull Design Update - The DC Stubby

When I started shaping boards back in 2006, one of my biggest inspirations came when I took my first wave on a 7'6 super smoothie shaped by Greg Liddle. at that point I had already been infatuated with surfboards and alternative surfboard design since I was 8. The "hull" was a game changer. I had to figure out how it worked and how I could create the same sensation i got from riding those boards with my own two hands. After several years and several design revisions, here is what I have come up with. This is the best hull I have shaped and ridden in terms of performance and use-ability. IT can be shrunken down to lengths as short as 5'8 and stretched up to lengths of 8'6 or more.

This is a 6'2 Driftwood Stubby with a burnt orange tint, sanded gloss finish, deck/ tail patch, cedar stringer and 6oz glass over US Blanks green density foam. It is for sale to a good home as part of my offering of stock surfboards. Custom price starts at $750

Mother Ships Have Landed. 9'6 and 10'6 DC SAM(s)

Here are a few shots of the last two DC SAMs post glass and pre hand-off to their new owners. The key characteristics of this board are the low nose/tail rocker, the classic 50/50 rail profile, the rolled entry to flat to gentle vee out the tail. This board represents my personal fascination of the longboard shapes of the mid to late 60's. I prefer to shape these boards at lengths anywhere from 9'2 to 10'6.

DC SAM Longboard Shapes

Here's one of 2 of DC SAMs I shaped the other day at the request of some awesome people. This 60's inspired longboard has elements of Nat Young's Magic Sam, Velzy's Pig and a few twists of my own. This board features a mello rocker, fairly foiled rails with a gentle rolled nose, to flat, to a slight vee in the tail.  Hips aft of center for hip turning, classic style.

Longboard Shapes - The DC SAM

The DC SAM is my modern version of the classic 60's pig. This board features a fairly low rocker in the nose, and a slight kick in the tail. The bottom has a soft rolled entry, which blends into a mellow vee out the tail. The rail profile is 50/50 throughout the front and mid section with a pronounced apex pulling up towards the tail to blend in with the deck. I like this one 9' - 10'

The DC Double Ender

Meet the DC Double Ender. This is an updated version of one of my more popular shapes. I updated the rocker making it a tad lower. The tails are finely foiled and on the bottom, the single concave starts forward to blend smoothly into double concave out the tail. Always best when ridden as a single fin but 2+1 is also an option. The full outline allows for easy paddle and maximum trim in almost any conditions.

I prefer this board as short as 5'10 to lengths over 8'.
